Summer Show Round Up: Comcast Outdoor Festival benefiting NIH Charities

by Bob Deutsch

Every year for the last 19 years, a Montgomery County mainstay has spent a few summer nights transforming into a charming, old-fashioned outdoor movie experience, and in some cases a drive-in movie theater. This year was no different! The 19th Comcast Outdoor Film Festival benefiting the NIH Charities was hosted this past weekend, August 21st – 23rd, at the Montgomery County Board of Education in Rockville, Maryland. Hundreds of cars lined up to watch a few of our favorite blockbusters.

During the event, attendees enjoyed delicious food and treats from local food trucks, such as Ben & Jerry’s, The Crab Cab and Jammin’ Flava. Children bounced around on the moon bounce and engaged in activities provided by sponsors Washington Chevrolet, F.H. Furr, Zipcar, The Upton, BMW of Rockville and Language Stars.

As the sun set over festivities, groups of friends, couples, and families all made their way to the parking lot at the Board of Education where the experienced professionals at DTA Global had installed a 65-foot inflatable screen. Did you know the screen alone weighs 2,000 lbs?

Some sat in the comfort of their own vehicles to watch the film while others spread out on blankets and lawn chairs. Once everyone in the audience was settled, the clear summer night made the perfect backdrop for the lineup of recently released, critically acclaimed movies.

We showed some of last year’s favorite movies:

The Comcast Outdoor Film Festival benefitting the NIH Charities was not only a blast for the audience, but a significant contribution to a great cause. The money raised for NIH Charities goes towards services that provide support to young patients and their families. We are already looking forward to next year, which will mark the 20th anniversary of the series. Time flies!
